Auckland War Memorial Museum – Gallipoli in Minecraft® Exhibition
Flooring Project Description: Create and install customised carpet tiles for a special exhibition as part of the museum’s WW1 centenary education programme. Alfriston College students had worked with the museum to create a digital version of Gallipoli in the interactive Minecraft® game. One of the goals of the project was to help students of this generation to learn about this historical event and the site of significance to NZ’s military history.
Client: Heritage Carpets
Dates: 10 April 2015

Work Completed:
- Generating three different custom carpet tile designs to reflect the water, sand and grass of the Gallipoli Peninsula
- Designs needed to appear pixelated to match the Minecraft® game, with very specific colours and sharp definition
- Laying the carpet as a non-permanent installation
Flooring Project Highlights
Meeting a Tight Deadline
We organised the printing of the customised carpet tiles in a very short timeframe and carried out the installation in just one day to meet the client’s deadline.
Minimising Disruption
Installation was completed outside of the museum’s opening hours to avoid disruption.
Innovative System
We met the customer’s need for a non-permanent carpet installation by using an innovative floating floor system.
